The men’s
hockey team arrived today! They are all staying in the village with the other
athletes. Pretty cool!
I was also able
to go to the Iceberg venue and watch some of the team event for figure skating.
We won a bronze medal! See pictures below.
Things that
I have been enjoying about the Games so far:
· * The fact that all of the coastal
venues are within walking distance of my apartment. Very convenient for a
pregnant lady! :)
· * The way the Olympic Park looks at
night…all of the venues are lit up in fun colors!
· * The Olympic torch…you can feel the
heat of the flame when you are near it!
· * The Belgian waffles in the dining
hall. I’m trying to limit myself to only one every other day.
· * The sun! The high was 60 degrees F in
the coast today!
· * Supporting the Team USA athletes with
all sorts of things; they are all so excited to be here!
· * The fact that technology has really
enhanced communications at these Games. For the first time ever, I’ve been able
to communicate with my teammates, my family AND read the latest news both here
and back home all from my phone. Awesome!
Keep
cheering for Team USA everyone! They need your support!
P.S. Shout
out to Mrs. Forer’s class at Washington Elementary School in Hibbing, MN! I’m
happy to hear you are enjoying the Olympics!
P.P.S. Happy
belated birthday to my little sister Jodi! J Hope you had a fantastic day!

Love it! Everything looks and sounds amazing! Enjoy those waffles, are they as good as the one's in Belgium? :) can't wait to see that belly back here in CO!
ReplyDeleteThe waffles are really good but definitely not as good as the ones in Belgium! :) Can't wait to see you soon!
DeleteSo cool! Thanks for the birthday shout out! :) So my kids came up with another question! This one is from a third grader, have you received any autographs from any of the athletes, like Shaun White? They are noticing and talking about all of the events and happenings everyday! So fun to see them enjoying the games like we do! :)
ReplyDeleteI have seen and have been supporting many Team USA athletes but have not gotten any autographs. The reason is because the village is like their home away from home so we really try to support them here. :) They are all very nice and fun people!
DeleteHi Julie, Mr. Johnson's fifth grade class from your hometown here. How are things over in Sochi? We are excited to tell you that the fifth grade students in my classroom have done another song about the U.S. Olympians born in Minnesota. We are sending this to you because you helped us so much four years ago with our last song. You are the first person outside of the classroom to see this. We are hoping that when things settle down for you after the Olympics that you would be willing to help us send this out to our Minnesota Olympic heroes once again. Enjoy! (Hopefully we can get you the video of this preformed tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteWe’re All Together (One Big World)
Grade Five, Mr. Johnson & Charlie Maguire, Assumption School, Hibbing, 2014
Zezel, Landsteiner, Shuster, Isaacson
They’re the US curling champions
With their rocks, and their brooms
They’ll bring the gold back to the locker room!
We’re all together, one big world
Yes, we’re all together, for peace and good will
We’re all together, one big world
Yes we’re all together, for peace and good will
He’s got spikes, on his gloves
The Luge event he really loves
Ninety Miles per hour as fast as he can
Christian Niccum is our man
Chodounsky, Diggins, Herman, and Koos
They are going to let it loose
On their skis, they’ll always fly
They’ll never give up they’ll always try
Crossing their skates, in the turns
Swinging their arms, feeling the “burn”
Ringsred and Lamb, Minnesota girls
They’ve already skated to the top of the world
Schleper, Stecklein, and Marvin too
They’re going to skate right over you
You better watch out, here they come
You’re going to be sore, when they’re done
Parise, Martin, Backes, and Faulk
Trying to beat them is a joke
Wheeler, Stepan, McDonagh
They’re all born in Minnesota!
Wow! This is fantastic! Very well done! Many of these athletes are living in the coastal village and I could share the lyrics and even the video with them soon. Please feel free to email me the video at julie.miller@usoc.org. They will love it!
